AYASE, Japan (June 4, 2012) U.S Navy Sailors and the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) stand at parade rest while listening to a speech given by Rear Adm. Matthew Carter, commander of Patrol and Reconnaissance Force 7th and 5th Fleet, Fleet Air Forward, during a Battle of Midway remembrance ceremony held at Naval Air Facility Atsugi'��s Alliance park. The ceremony was held to pay tribute to the patriotism, perseverance, heroism, and sacrifice of Japanese and Americans alike. The wreaths placed at the foot of each flagpole were a symbol of the respect held for those who served in defense of their countries and were used to represent the friendship and alliance that now stands between the United States and Japan.
